Obituary of Jean Louise Fisher

Jean Louise Fisher, 87, a 54 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014. Jean was born November 28, 1926 in York PA to the late Turner A. and Lucy Duncan. Jean was married to her late husband (Eugene) for over 70 years. Their bond was huge. In fact, Jean's beloved husband died recently on May 27, 2014. Jean was devastated and allowed her own failing health to get worse and joined him on a beautiful Sunday in August. Jean actually met her husband when she was six and he was nine. Her husband told her that he was going to marry her when they were children. She was nine at the time. They did end up getting married on July 17th, 1943. Jean was so special that Eugene actually went AWOL from the ARMY to marry his childhood sweetheart. Jean was raised by her mother during the depression in a row house in York PA. Like most children raised during this time, window shopping was a fun pastime. Jean developed a passion for shopping. When Jean got to be a young teenager, she got a job. Jean actually took her first paycheck and bought a very expensive pair of shoes. Obviously her mother had a good talk with her that day about money and economics! Jean had some very interesting jobs over her lifetime. She once worked in a candy factory and had to keep the caramels from sticking together on the conveyer belt! Remember the I Love Lucy episode? I think that the TV show got their idea for that particular episode! Jean also work seven years making false teeth in a tooth factory. Jean was a very loving and caring person and believed that a mother needed to be home with her children. To accomplish this goal Jean first tried becoming an Avon lady. She found out that delivering cosmetics in the desert heat of Las Vegas was not only hot but extremely difficult. Jean then got a job in the school cafeteria. After all, if school is out than they didn't need a cafeteria worker! Perfect job for her. She retired from the Clark County School district after over 20 years of service. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Gene, daughter Linda and her sisters, Elizabeth and Nellie along with two grand children. Jean is survived by her twins Paul and Paula, eight living grand children, twelve great grand children and two great great grand children. The funeral will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 12:40pm at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV.
