Obituary of Rebecca Jean Scott

Rebecca Jean Scott, age 80 of Las Vegas, transitioned into heavenly peace on Saturday, November 4, 2017. She was born March 5, 1937 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania to the late Woodrow Wilson Jones and Rebecca Lee Redman. Around the age of 7 her family moved to Columbus, Ohio where she attended her school years. In 1968, she married her husband Earl Scott, Jr. and in 1970 they received a military transfer to March AFB in Moreno Valley, CA where they raised their family. Rebecca began her professional career in Civil Service as a clerk typist in 1967. Throughout her government service employment, she received many outstanding and superior performance awards and many recognition awards including “Civilian of the Year.” She retired as the Director of the Contracting Division at March AFB, Riverside, CA. She was responsible for writing, purchasing and awarding all contracts for the base. Rebecca was the first civilian, first woman and first black American to hold this position at March AFB. After 30 years of civilian service and her husband’s military retirement, she moved to Henderson, Nevada in 1999 where she resided until her death. Most known as “Jean” she especially enjoyed entertaining and surrounding herself with those she loved. Her home was often the gathering place for many family holiday dinners and celebrations. She was a strong believer in her faith and had a close knit relationship with the Lord. She had a wonderful church family full of people who absolutely loved her; she loved them immensely and enjoyed many friendship activities and social luncheons with her friends. Rebecca is survived by her children, Cheryl (Leroy) Robinson, Karen (Robert) Martin, and Denise Ramey; siblings Mildred Woodson and half-brother Woodrow Wilson Jones, Jr., grandchildren Vaughn Nicholson, Danielle Ruffin-Prime, Sean Nicholson, Sonya Ruffin, Corey Reynolds, Stoney Daniels, and Taylor Parks; great-grandchildren Lee Ruffin, Nakiyah Ruffin, Will Watson, Khamai Reynolds and Lynnea Nicholson; and a host of nieces and nephews. Rebecca is predeceased in death by her husband Earl Scott, Jr, her children David Parks, Jr., Tonya (Dianne) Parks and great-grandson Xavier Williams. A memorial will take place Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Fountain of Hope AME Church, 2955 E. Russell Rd, Las Vegas, NV. Repast immediately following service at Rhythm Kitchen, 6435 S Decatur Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89118.
