Obituary of Teodoro Alcalde Ybuan

Teodoro "Ted" Alcalde Ybuan passed away and joined our Lord peacefully on February 7, 2015 surrounded by family and love, at the age of 69 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ted was born in the Philippines to Rudisendo and Honorata Ybuan on August 15, 1945. He spent a number of years as a decorated homicide detective for the Criminal Investigations Division of the Quezon City Police Department before he and his family immigrated to Los Angeles, California. Once in LA, he held a number of jobs in different fields, including personal injury law, and eventually led him to a position as a medical records clerk at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ted was a man of faith who never failed to make his loved ones feel valued and treasured. A combination of incredible generosity and an easygoing, fun-loving nature earned him a diverse network of friends – more than he could count, but ones he could always count on. A natural-born crooner, he enjoyed singing songs by the classics of his day: Elvis Presley, Englebert Humperdink, Tom Jones, Paul Anka, and Frank Sinatra. He also enjoyed basketball, Starbucks coffee, ping-pong, Converse shoes, and keeping himself well-dressed. On October 7, 2013, Ted was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. After countless rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, multiple hospital stays, and with God's Grace and the love, prayers, and support of his family and friends, especially his wife Edna, he was able to stay hopeful and fight his disease for nearly two years. He is survived by his beloved wife Edna Garcia Ybuan, and his three children and two stepchildren – Ivy Ybuan Sudjati (son-in-law Michael Sudjati), Mark Ybuan (daughter-in-law Monica Ybuan), Jeric Ybuan, Ria Eufemio (son-in-law Alan Eufemio), and Bryne Deatry; his five grandchildren – Zoë Sudjati, Kya Sudjati, Andrew Eufemio, Karla Eufemio, and Avery Eufemio. He is also survived by his mother, Honorata Ybuan, and his siblings Edgardo Ybuan, Mary Lou Ybuan Pura, Ernestino Ybuan, and Ronaldo Ybuan. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces who all admired him greatly. All are invited to the viewing that will take place on Sunday, February 15, at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Home from 1pm to 4pm, with a funeral liturgy at 3pm. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, February 17, at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church at 10am. His remains will be cremated and transported back to the Philippines where he can be joined with his father's ashes. The family would like to thank everyone who was a part of Ted's life – especially those who prayed, and who continue to pray, diligently for him and his family. We would also like to thank the numerous doctors, nurses and caregivers who took such great care of him throughout this journey. "In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you." -Unknown
