Obituary of Shigeru Henry Ito

Shigeru Henry Ito, age 82, of Las Vegas, passed away July 23, 2014, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in 1932 to Ryuzaburo and Kane Ito in Oakland, CA, and was preceded in death by his sisters Yone Honda, Masa Ito, and his parents. Also lovingly known as "Shig" and "Shiggy," he is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Hedy, and his sister, Kiyo Kariya. Shig is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Shig attended high school at St. Joseph International School in Yokohama, Japan. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in Japan from 1956-57. He attended San Francisco City College and completed his studies in Civil Engineering. He worked for the California Department of Transportation until his retirement. A semi-private 49th Day Service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 2:00 PM, at Gardena Buddhist Church, Gardena, CA. In addition, a short service will be held in San Diego, CA, (on land, near the boat) on Sunday, September 21, at 1 p.m., before a boat goes out to sea for the scattering of ashes, from 2-4 p.m. If you are interested in attending the September 6 service, or the short service and/or the boat ride and scattering of ashes on September 21, contact Hedy Ito at h3ito@embarqmail.com, for more details.
