Obituary of Mary Carolyn "Sam" Hogan

In Memory of Mary Carolyn "Sam" Hogan Our beloved Sam transitioned on July 25, 2014 after having lived 62 very full years. She died surrounded by her family and friends gathered through a lifetime of helping others recover and heal. All who were there were honored to be with her as she took her journey to return to the creator. Sam was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was a true Southerner at heart, yet loved her desert home with a passion and had also planted roots in Montana, Siesta Key, Florida, and Kauai, Hawaii. She was a creative artist and successful business woman. Sam loved the adventures she had in her travel throughout the world, finding new "homes" wherever she went. Her love of her animal friends and nature was intense and ever-present. She is survived by her loving son Aaron Greenberg, her grandson Ethan Greenberg, her devoted housemate and friend Carmen Medellin, sisters: Pat Hogan, Robin May, Julie Gilday Shaffer; niece Ki Ki Lee Herr, nephew Bobby Herr, aunts and cousins in North Carolina, Virginia and around the country, her Native American family, the Living in Process family, as well as, very importantly, her Twelve-step family. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to make a donation to Peace Valley Healing Center, PO Box 979, Boulder, Montana 59632. Family and friends would like to take this time to thank Dr. Karen Jacks and the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Las Vegas for their wonderful care and support. Although she will be sorely missed, those who love her and have been deeply touched by her life, feel privileged and honored lovingly to send her off on this next part of her journey of learning, growing, healing and serving. Sam, like all of us, was a unique, shining being who was loving and loved, imperfect and perfect. She shared her growing, learning and healing as she "did" this life and she leaves surrounded by our prayers, love and gratitude. A celebration of Sam's life will take place Saturday, September 13, 2014, from 10:00am to Noon, at at Bear’s Best Las Vegas,11111 W. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89135. A Continental Breakfast will be served. Please RSVP to Julie Shaffer at 702-998-9098, or Julie@thejgsgroup.com.
