I happened to see a post on Facebook by Judy's brother David whom I never had the pleasure of knowing...Judy and I were good buddies that loved to dance together as fairly young teens (ages 13-16)...as youngsters, we both attended the many "socials" for teens in Waterbury...first at Driggs School, the YWCA, Hullabaloo and the famous 'Shack" in Oakville ...Judy was simply a "natural' dancer and if allowed, I was a student of anyone who could teach me any of their "moves"...I remember clearly, a Friday Night at the old "Iceland" on Thomaston Ave...renamed "Hullabaloo" after the early 60's TV show of the same name...a slightly upbeat (but) slow song came on and Judy looked at me with her eyes wide open as if to say..."wanna"? I couldn't say no..we had fast danced many times already that night but this would be our first slower number...so we entered the cavernous concrete dance floor and began slow dancing when Judy asked me "do you know how to TWO-STEP?"
I said...I think so and it began...although she was far more advanced a two-stepper than I, we always were "in sync" and I caught on rather fast to her instructions (or at least I thought I did)...at any rate...from that point forward we would see each other rather frequently at whatever venue was the hot spot for kids of our age at the time and whenever we did we would greet each other with a smile and a warm hug and without exception spend at least a few minutes on the dance floor ...our friendship faded as we grew older but I've thought about Judy Hoch many times over the years...she was a good friend who I will never forget...beautiful both inside and out....RIP my dear friend...Bob (Humpty) Damia
