Obituary of Arthur Neal Spector

Arthur "Art" N. Spector, retired investor, real estate broker, stockbroker, lender, designer, and military officer passed October 19, 2013. He was 71. Art had lived in Las Vegas, NY since 1990. He was born in Little Rock, AR. Captain Spector served 4+ years active duty in the U.S. Air Force, in the Nuclear Weapons Maintenance & Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD - bomb squad) fields, stationed at Lackland AFB, TX; Lowry AFB, CO; Travis AFB, CA; USNPP Indian Head, MD; and Hill AFB, UT. Art then volunteered to serve an additional 2 years in the California Air National Guard as a Weapons Loading Officer [GAR-II missiles] for F-I02 fighter aircraft, and was assigned to the 163rd Fighter Interceptor Squadron [FIS] at Ontario ANGB, CA [Los Angeles, CA area air defense], and the 152nd Communications Squadron, Compton ANGB, CA . Art's formal business career began in July, 1967 with the Aerojet-General Corporation of Downey, CA; then to Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Smith in Santa Ana, CA as a stock broker; then on to DuPont-Walston, Inc. as a stock brokerage branch manager or sales manager at their offices in Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; San Francisco, CA; and San Diego, CA, until 1974. Art operated Spector Furs, Inc., in North Little Rock, AR, with his older brother, Robert J. [Bob] Spector, as equal partners, for 9 years [1974-1983], when he sold his half interest to his brother. Art received his Arkansas Real Estate Broker's license in 1983. Later, in 1983, Art joined Prudential-Bache Securities, Inc., Little Rock, AR for 3 years, as a Registered Representative. As the 1980's passed, Art became a Branch Manager and Registered Securities Principal (Series 7 & Series 24 NASD Licensed) for 2 boutiques, independent investment securities firms in AR, FL, & NY, which were "Private Ledger, Inc. ", and "Securities America, Inc". During his financial management and advisory career, Art SIMULTANEOUSLY held "NASD Series 7" and "NASD Series 24" licenses; Passed all state law exams; Was a licensed Insurance agent; and was also a licensed Arkansas Real Estate Broker and operator of" 1 031 Exchange Realty", of Little Rock, AR. Additionally, Art Spector had previously been licensed as a Registered Commodity Trader with the Chicago Board of Trade, after graduation from the Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Smith Educational Institute, 70 Pine Street (Wall Street area), New York, NY. Art had been a successful real estate licensee, investor and lender in Las Vegas, NY since early retirement. Art attended Little Rock, Arkansas public schools, beginning with Woodruff Elementary School. Art was a member of the "Lost Class of 1959 - Hall High ", from the Little Rock school closures. He lettered in football at Pulaski Heights Junior High School and Hall Senior High School, at the offensive and defensive tackle position. He was coached by famous Arkansas coaching figures: Wilson Matthews, (Little Rock Central HS); C. W. Koepple (Pulaski Heights Jr. HS), and Raymond Peters (Hall High School). He completed his B.A. degree work at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock in 1962, and later completed his M.B.A degree work; "GI-BiU- Night school"; at the University of California-Irvine, CA in 1971. Art is survived by his fianc', Gloria, of suburban Los Angeles, CA. Also, Art's survived by 2 children: Andy McKell in Spector of Wheaton, IL, and Stacey Spector Dedering of San Jose, CA. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Graycie Belle Dedering and Benjamin George Dedering of San Jose, CA. He's also survived by his brother, Robert "Bob" Spector, and nephew, Jeffrey M. Spector, both of Little Rock, AR. Art is predeceased by his loving and generous parents, Ben and Rose Spector of Little Rock, AR. Art was a member of Pulaski Heights Lodge F&AM #673, Little Rock, AR; The Scottish Rite Bodies & Zelzah Shrine Temple of Las Vegas, NY; and the 1.C.C. of Las Vegas. He was a member of the Clark County, NY Republican Central Committee; a board member of the Republican Men's Club of Nevada-Las Vegas, and a member of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Services will be on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
