Obituary of Avelina Martinez

Avelina Martinez, a resident of the Las Vegas area since 2005, died on Tuesday the 3rd of September in her home after a three- year battle with ovarian cancer. Born in 1945 in Manila, Philippines to Pilar & Pedro Cadiz, Avelina attended high school at South Eastern College & obtained her MD from Far Eastern University in 1971. She continued her education at the University of the Philippines, from which she received her MA Degree in Public Health in 1990. In December 12, 1970, she married her high school Sweetheart, Mariano, also a medical doctor & had three children, Bryan, Marivelle & Marlyn. Avelina served as a Medical Health Officer at Pasay City Hall from 1972 to 1982. Then became a Resident physician at Puerto Princesa General hospital through 1990; that same year she & her family immigrated to the U.S. She was employed at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, where she worked until her retirement. Avelina loved to cook Filipino dishes and socializing, she enjoyed hosting big Kareoke parties with friends & family. She loved music, arts & nature and had a zest for life. She is survived by her husband, Mariano, their three children and six grandchildren, all of whom live in Las Vegas, and brought great joy to her life.
