Obituary of Donald Robert Kusel

Dr. Donald Robert Kusel, age 70, of Henderson, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. Donald was born on April 11, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, NY, to the late Stanley Paul and the late Eleanor Frances (Kahn) Kusel. Donald received his Bachelors of Science from Miami of Ohio, his Master of Arts from Columbia University, and his PhD from Miami of Ohio as well. He was the Superintendent of Schools at Blind-Brook-Rye and the Union Free School District of the Tarrytowns. Donald was also the Principal at Rosedale, Post Road, and Ridgeway Elementary Schools in White Plains, NY, White Plains Middle School, and White Plains High School. He was an Adjunct Professor at New Paltz University, Iona College, and the College of New Rochelle. In 2001, Don retired in Las Vegas, NV. He was passionate about world travel, tennis, reading, poker and he was a sports fanatic. Donald's greatest joy was his family. He was active in his Synagogues, both east and west coast, and in the Sun City Anthem Democratic Club. Don was a member of Pnai Tikvah. He is survived by his wife Jane Beatrice (Roshkind) Kusel ; daughter Dr. Amy Beth Kusel Epner (Steven) of La Jolla, CA; son Daniel Joshua Kusel (Summer Dennis) of Boca Raton, FL, and grandchildren Spencer Pushkin, Rebecca Rose, Kayla Jaye, and Jeremy Paul. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Kraft Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Dr. #104, Las Vegas, NV, (702) 785-6500, with Rabbi Yocheved Mintz officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery 1500 Las Vegas Blvd N Las Vegas, NV 89101, (702) 229-6246, on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Shiva observances will be held at the Kusel's Home, 2645 Evening Sky Drive, Henderson, NV, (702) 407-5077, on Tuesday, April 9th from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday April 10th and Thursday April 11th from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday April 12th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
