Obituary of Iakopo "Jake" Unaite

Iakopo "Jake" Unaite, Jr., age 55, of Las Vegas, passed Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Jake was born February 27, 1958 in Pago Pago, American Samoa to Iakopo and Melefu (Siliga) Unaite. After 22 years of service, he retired as a Master Sgt. from the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served in the Desert Storm war. He later worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service. Jake was an impact on many young athletes' lives as a coach for his daughter's softball team and the NYFL. He loved watching his children play high school sports, golfing with his friends, and playing video poker. Jake was a family man, a teacher and always had words of wisdom. His last joy in life was his grandson Mason. Jake is survived by his wife Susan Unaite; daughter Brandee Unaite of Pearl City, HI; sons Jake Unaite of Las Vegas, NV and Nicholas Unaite of Las Vegas, NV; parents Iakopo and Melefu (Siliga) Unaite; sisters Annette, Darlene, Mouki; brother Tommy; and grandson Mason Unaite of Pearl City, HI. Multiple nieces and nephews also survive him. His son Brandon Unaite predeceases him. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at New Hope Las Vegas (3965 S. Durango Drive), with Pastor Kent Miyoshi officiating. .
