Obituary of Eida Gertrudis Argilagos Bengochea

Eida Gertrudis Argilagos Bengochea, 93, of Henderson, NV, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 16, 2021. She was the daughter of Aristides and Francisca Argilagos and was born in Camaguey, Cuba in 1928. Eida sought asylum in the United States after fleeing communist Cuba in 1960. Although heartbroken to leave her family on the island, she was always grateful to live in her new country and immensely proud to become an American citizen. She married the love of her life, Arturo Felipe Bengochea (deceased). Together they raised four children in Las Vegas, Nevada – Mariana Johnson (Bob), Amador "Chi-Chi" (Dorothy), Maria Uribe (Jorge) and Manuel "T" (Julie). She was "Nana" to friends and family – and especially to her 10 grandchildren: Danyelle (Taylor), Alexandra, Aaron (Jill), Lindsey (Joe) and Bobby (Stephy), Alex, Miranda, Mia, John, Ava; and her 3 great-grandchildren: Lenny Jo, Maren, and Hollis Alexandra. As matriarch, she instilled strong values in all of us –especially the importance of formal education and hard work as a basis for achieving success in this country, family unity in all matters big or small and to express gratitude for our many blessings. We will cherish memories of her on her favorite holiday, Christmas Eve; and will be reminded of her throughout the year when we enjoy café con leche and flan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make donations to a nonprofit organization that warms your heart. 

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 5pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5830 Mesa Park Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89135. A private burial ceremony will take place on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
