Obituary of Aumnie Faye Halper
Aumnie Faye Halper unexpectedly transitioned on January 1, 2021, breaking so many hearts. Aumnie was born on July 13, 2007. Born to her mom Shellie on a sunny day in Woodland Hills, California, Aumnie entered the world ready to change it.
Aumnie was a cherub-like 10 pound baby at birth and grew to be a sweet, animal loving toddler who insisted on walking through dog parks as often as possible. Her love for animals only grew; Aumnie had a pet parrot, hamster, cat, five chickens and several dogs. She volunteered weekly at her favorite animal shelter Pawsitive Difference and especially loved rescuing dogs on "death row" during Freedom Rides. She once made her family pull over on a road trip to save two dogs that were roaming close to the highway. Those dogs ended up with all their pizza and a new best friend! She became a vegetarian at the young age of five when she discovered that meat came from animals and never looked back.
Aumnie was a gifted student. She was fluent in French, artistic by nature and especially loved science. Her plan was to visit Paris someday. Not only did she excel in her classes but Aumnie was an inclusive friend. She was known to reach out to those whose hands hung low and made everyone feel welcomed. She also excelled in sports and loved basketball and volleyball the most. Life was never boring with Aumnie — she once hid 500 tiny pink babies all over her school for friends and schoolmates to discover making a normal day just a little more exciting.
Aumnie's mom Shellie was her best friend. They were a powerful duo from day one. Together they traveled the world, rode horses in the ocean, played with elephants and hiked beautiful trails. At home Aumnie was an avid gardener who also loved sewing and playing her ukulele. Always a night owl, Aumnie loved learning new dances, having friends over and cooking. In her last Christmas card to Shellie, she wrote: "No matter how far we are apart we will always be close in the heart."
Aumnie is survived by her close family members; Shellie Halper (mother), Stephanie Singer (aunt), Gene and Faye Elman (grandparents) and her cousins Zachary, Cameron, and Jonah. She will also be missed by Woody her cat and her favorite dog Pogo. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to Pawsitive Difference (linked here).
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 21st at 9011 Hillpointe Road. Viewing/Reception from 3:00pm - 3:45, then funeral service at 4:00 pm. It may be seen via https://zoom.us/j/91311940834.
Aumnie Faye Halper was a compassionate, kind, creative, independent, caring and carefree soul. To remember her and keep her memory alive, try to be a little more like Aumnie today. Cheer for the underdog, look for the person who may need a friend, show compassion to someone who has less than you. Let's change the world the way Aumnie did.
To quote her favorite song from the movie Coco:
Remember me
Though I have to say goodbye
Remember me
Don't let it make you cry
For even if I'm far away I hold you in my heart
I sing a secret song to you each night we are apart
Remember me
Though I have to travel far
Remember me
Each time you hear a sad guitar
Know that I'm with you the only way that I can be
Until you're in my arms again
Remember me
We will remember you, Aumnie.
