Obituary of George John Pantages

George John Pantages,101 years old, of Summerlin, NV, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020. George was born in San Mateo, CA on July 21, 1919, the oldest child of John and Mary Pantages. He attended High School in San Mateo and Pharmacy school in San Francisco before graduating from UC Berkeley with a Pharmacy degree. The day he received his diploma, George enlisted in the US Navy and was placed aboard the carrier, USS Princeton (CVL 23). He served in the Pacific Theater during the entirety of the WWII Pacific Campaign. After narrowly surviving the sinking of his ship, he returned to California, where he met Lorraine George of Los Altos. After a brief courtship, they were married on October 27, 1946. The couple first lived in San Rafael, where their first child, Judy, was born. The young family then moved to Palo Alto where the next two additions, Sage (Chris) and Sandra were born. George continued work as a Pharmacist in Redwood City while their new house was built in Los Altos in 1952. The last two children, Tony and Alex were born there. In 1961, George bought Knight's Pharmacy in Mountain View. After raising her family, Lorraine joined George in the Pharmacy where they worked side by side, running the business together for the next 25 years. In 1998, they decided to give up the store and house so they could move to Summerlin, their "Oasis in the desert." They made new friends, hosted visiting family and enjoyed another 14 years together before Lorraine passed in 2012. George is survived by his five children, Judy, Sage, Sandra, Tony, Alex and loving daughters- in-law, Suzanne (Tony), and Maria (Alex) and Toni (Sage) and two grandchildren, Nick and Justin. George was a loving Husband, a role-model Father, a respected Friend and a truly kind man. He was also a proud WWII Navy veteran with several published stories of his experiences in the Service and was an active member of the Sun City Military Club. Services will be determined at a later date, interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos, CA.
