I love what Ellen said about Rhoda. Rhoda always had such a twinkle in her eyes and a way of making you feel welcome. And you could just tell how close that she and Jerry were...well, are! And the entire family is an example of what closeness is. She will be missed and loved always and I hope that the family relies on the wonderful memories that they have of beautiful Rhoda.

I can only echo the remarks my daughters have made about Rhoda. When I first met Rhoda at Scott and Ellen's home in clearwater, I had just purchased a small condo at Horizon House on Island Estates and was a little nervous about telling my husband Linn about it. Rhoda made me feel that it would be alright and that I had made a good buy since it was on an Island and near the beach. She had this little way of making you feel everything would be alright. When we concluded our visit her last words to me that day made me laugh. She said: " Now don't go buying anymore condos today" She had a way of looking at you with that twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes and making you feel calm and happy. She will be missed by everyone, especially all of her family and friends (which are many}. We especially want to send comforting thoughts to Jerry, Wayne, and Scott. Her memory will live on with her loving grandaughters, Shannon and Jenna.
We love you and miss you

As Ellen's sister, we spent time with Rhoda and Jerry many times through the years. My feelings and observations echo my sister's in terms of how accepting, loving and open Rhoda was to everyone. She also had a great sense of humour and enthusiasm for life. You could tell she was the life-of-a-party kind of gal. We spent time at her house in Vegas on several occasions for Christmas in recent years and she remained as consistently upbeat and friendly as the day we first met her. And, I can truly see her in her grandchildren. Rhoda, your warmth and generosity will be missed but never forgotten. You were always kind and welcoming from the minute the door opened to your happy home.

I knew they were special when I first met Scott, long before I actually met them in person. How many 24 year olds feel such sentimentality, love so deeply, and have such a special bond with their family? It was obvious Scott was special and had come from a unique family.
When I met Rhoda, Jerry, and their other son Wayne, I instantly felt safe, cared for, loved. Acceptance was instant; I didn’t need to prove anything. I fell as much in love with them as I already had with Scott.
Rhoda had an amazing ability to calm a situation. She didn’t want conflict and she didn’t want people to be upset. She could read people’s emotions, and had a knack for saying or doing just the right thing to soothe their anxiety.
She also had a stubborn streak and wasn’t going to apologize for it. When someone complained that she didn’t take her medicine fast enough, she didn’t argue. She would smile and say, “I don’t like to take medicine.” No matter how many times we told her not to bring us more food from the buffet line, she always came back with an extra plate. “I like to share,” she would say. Somehow that self acceptance, that ability to laugh at herself, translated into acceptance for everyone around her. And those of us who were lucky enough to bask in that warmth will never forget the strength of the bond it created.
Rhoda exuded kindness to everyone. She was a top salesperson because people sensed her sincerity. When she worked in Scott’s office, the patients loved her. If I took her place on a given day, people would come in, eye me suspiciously, and say, “Where’s Rhoda?”
But Rhoda, Mom, Nanny, reserved her special love for the family. Nothing, nothing was more important than family. She was at the heart of the family, always there, always making sure everyone was taken care of. She used to tell me, “I don’t have a daughter in law. I have a daughter.” And I felt the same. Rhoda and Jerry are Mom and Dad, not in-laws.
Rhoda lives on in many ways and through many people. In her granddaughter, Jenna, who shares Nanny’s sentimental inability to give up anything she’s ever owned. In her son, Scott, who possesses her inner wisdom, love of family, and amazing blue eyes. In her son Wayne’s sense of humor and perseverance. In her granddaughter Shannon, who shares her golden skin, and calm exterior belying deep waters. In the life lessons she modeled for me. And in Jerry, the guardian of the love they shared.
For years, Jerry and Rhoda lived and worked together, focusing on the goal of building a strong family. Nothing, even Rhoda’s passing, can break that bond because they have instilled the same strength in their own children and grandchildren, creating a chain that will pass on through the generations. We mourn terribly for our Rhoda, our Mom, our Nanny. But we also thank her for the incredible gifts of love and acceptable she and Jerry instilled in our family.
Anything we say today is only a weak echo of our feelings. But we love you Rhoda, we miss you, we will never forget you and, most of all, we thank you for sharing your life with us.
