Obituary of David Harold McGuire

David Harold McGuire of Las Vegas, NV died peacefully in his sleep from heart complications on his 72nd birthday, August 31, 2011. He was born August 31, 1939, at Mercy Hospital, Urbana, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margaret McGuire of Champaign, and his close friend and business partner, Harry Hall. David attended schools in Champaign, graduating from Champaign Senior High School in 1957. He co-owned the Big Ten Barber Shop, initially located on campus on Green Street then later on John Street, until 1970 when he moved to Las Vegas. In Las Vegas he was employed for over 30 years by the MGM Grand, Bally's, and Stardust casinos. He is survived by his brother, Richard McGuire (Kay), Urbana, niece Donna McGuire Pepper (Cam), great- nephew Taybor Pepper and great-niece Sloane Pepper of Saline, Michigan, many cousins in the Champaign-Urbana area, and his special Las Vegas friends, Penny Dante, Linda Valente, Renee Gibson, and his dog Kara. A memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church, Champaign, IL, at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 7. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Reverend Gary Bass will officiate. Following the Service, interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana.
