Rita Luft

Obituary of Rita Luft

Rita Luft, age 88, a 30 year resident of Las Vegas, died Saturday, July 25, 2009. Rita worked for the US Army as a medical technician, followed by various sales positions in New York and Las Vegas. Widowed after her husband, Isadore, died, Rita, an extremely resourceful, compassionate, caring and loving woman raised three sons and brought them out of the projects to a house of their own. Passionate about equality for all, she had a kind word for everyone and was honored by hosting Rev. Dr. M. L. King, Jr. and Rev. Abernathy at her house for dinner. People describe her as nurturing, tireless, selfless, generous, hard-working, courageous, proud, grateful, cultured, humble and as an animal lover, great cook, interior decorator and wonder mother. She will be fondly remembered by her sons Bruce and Rick (Analeah) of Las Vegas and Ken (Diane) of NY, NY; her brother, Bert Sommerman of Fl.; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. Two things are certain in life, no matter how many people are around. You come into the world alone and you leave alone. Rita was brought into this world by two loving parents, whom she adored, Phil and Henrietta, and up to the last second she left with two loving sons who loved, respected, honored and adored her. We will miss you and you will always be in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Dr., Ste.104. . .
