Obituary of Simuel Decatur McGill

Simuel D. McGill aka as Mack, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, April 17th, 2020 at the age of 95 in Las Vegas. Born on July 31st, 1924 in Jacksonville Florida, Simuel was born to the late Ida Lee Thornton and Nathan Kellogg McGill, a prominent Chicago Attorney. A graduate of Englewood High School in Chicago and Howard University, Simuel is a veteran of World War II and served as a gunner in the Tuskegee Airman’s 477th Bomber Group under General Benjamin O. Davis Jr. On December 24th, 1960, Simuel married Raquel Gloria Chavarria of Mexico City. Simuel lived in Chicago where he raised a family and worked 28 years for the Illinois Department of Employment Security before retiring to Las Vegas. Simuel loved to be around people and looked forward to family visits and being with his church family every Sunday. Simuel is survived by his former spouse, Raquel G. Koller of Chicago, IL; daughter Denise (Jathan) Fuentes of Chicago, IL; daughter Michele (Carl) Hanson of Crest Hill, IL; son Simuel D. McGill Jr., of Ft Worth, TX; grandson Patrick Fuentes of Chicago IL; nephew Nathan (Charlotte) McGill III of Chicago, IL; niece Kara Mitchell of Chicago IL. Simuel is predeceased by his brother Nathan K. McGill II (November 12th, 1962) and half-brother Winston B. McGill Sr. (November 6th, 2006).
