Obituary of Suzeanne Bernell

Suzeanne (Sue) Bernell, 77, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on March 27, 2020. A small graveside service for family will be held Monday, March 30 at the King David Cemetery. Rabbi Felipe Goodman of Temple Beth Shalom will be officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Sue was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 9, 1942. She graduated from Forest Park High School in Baltimore and later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sue married Gordon Bernell on March 15, 1964. They were married 40 years until Gordon's passing on May 6, 2004. Sue led a very rich life. Sue authored five novels, produced a radio show, owned a kosher catering business, was part of a Jewish singing group, and later in life became a prolific artist, giving all who visited a painting to take home. She was a life member of Hadassah and President of her local chapter in Albuquerque. Sue and Gordon's home was open to everyone, and a haven for those in need. Family, friends and even people released from jail always had a place to stay, for however long they needed. For the past 16 years, Sue lived with her daughter, Julie Ostrovsky, son-in-law, Joel Ostrovsky, and grandchildren, Samantha and Mitchell Ostrovsky. Sue is also survived by her son, David Bernell, daughter-in-law, Steph Bernell, grandchildren Eli and Miles Bernell, brothers, Todd Levy, Richard Levy, Arnold Levy, and Chuck Levy, and sister Ellen Baimas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Autism Community Trust (24518 W. Hacienda Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89118), and Hadassah.
