Obituary of William Arthur Luther

William Arthur Luther, age 83, of Pahrump passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011. William was born March 9, 1928 in Monrovia CA to the late Almon and the late Alma Luther. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served during World War II. He was part of Task Force 7, "Operation Sandstone" in the So. Pacific during 3 atomic bomb tests. On the California Coast of California he was Commanding Officer of US Navy Sea Cadet Corps in San Luis Obispo CA, Bill was also a youth leader for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and Lutheran Youth League. Bill was a Licensed Building Contractor in Calif. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and water sports. An avid water-skier, he taught all of his children and their friends how to ski. Bill was a member of the Elks, the Moose, Disabled American Veterans, US Navy League, The Trench Rats, and National Association of Atomic Veterans. He is survived by his wife Margaret "Peggy" Luther ; children J. Terry (Roxanne) Luther of Danville CA, Debbie (Jimmy) Sprague of Nipomo CA and Sandy (Dave) Cachola of Santa Maria CA and grandchildren Brian and Mason Luther and Quinn Cachola. The funeral was held 12:00 pm on Monday, March 14 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV. The Elks Memorial will be held on the 9th of April at 3:00 PM.
