Obituary of Shirley Schulz Riley

Shirley Riley, 83, who arrived in Las Vegas from the Midwest in a brand-new Chevy station wagon in 1958 and never left, passed away on Oct. 24, 2016. Born Shirley Arlene Schulz on Nov. 26, 1932, in Galesburg, Ill., she had been married to Joseph Riley and had two children, Lisa Riley Roche and Thomas Riley. Shirley saw the ocean for the first time with Lisa and Tom more than 50 years ago, just one of many adventures she experienced with her children. After they were grown, Shirley studied accounting at UNLV and was employed for many years in the food and beverage department at the MGM Grand, and later helped run a company that supplied food to hotels. She enjoyed playing video poker and tried to never miss a chance to test her knowledge of just about any subject by watching "Jeopardy." Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary, and older sister Jessie, as well as her former husband. She is survived by her brother, Jerry, and twin sisters, Joan and Jean, and their families, and by her children, Tom (Aimmee) and Lisa (Vaughn), granddaughter and six great-grandchildren, who all deeply miss her. A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 18, at Kraft Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas, Friday, Nov. 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
