Obituary of Mordecai (Lou) Louis Arin

Mordecai Louis "Lou" Arin, 80, a 13 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away on October 30, 2015. After graduating from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, Lou attended the University of Indiana where he earned his Master's degree in physical chemistry. While at the University of Indiana, Lou met his loving wife Jean Myrna Arin. In 1962, Lou and Jean moved to Waltham, Massachusetts where Lou attended Brandeis University earning his Doctorate in physical chemistry. Lou is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Jean Arin, his children, Imanuel Arin, Naomi Arin and Deborah Arin, his identical twin Theodore Arin, and his sister Barbara Sobel. Lou worked for a variety of companies in the bio-technology industry, before retiring from the Food and Drug Administration after a long and distinguished career of 20 years. During that time, Lou tested and inspected medical devices and instruments to ensure their safety when using them in the treatment of people with a variety of illnesses. Earlier in his career, Lou had also invented two machines used in the clean up of our rivers and lakes under the Clean Water Act. After retiring from the Food and Drug Administration, Lou and Jean moved to Las Vegas to be with their three children and grandchildren. During his 13 years in Las Vegas, Lou volunteered his time working tirelessly on a number of projects for the Democratic Party. In addition, Lou wrote articles and editorials in local publications to help raise public awareness about the need to protect the environment. He also volunteered his time working for local Jewish organizations and temples on a variety of projects. Lou was an eternal optimist who could always be seen with a smile on his face. His kindness, love, and patience will be greatly missed by his family and all who Lou touched in life. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Temple Sinai, 9001 Hillpointe Road, 89134. The burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. North, 89101.
