Obituary of Arlene Merritt

October 29, 2015 Arlene Seema Gottlieb Merritt, 71, lost her struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She had been receiving care at El Jen Health Care and Rehabilitation of North Las Vegas, NV, and spent her last few days with family by her side at Nathan Adelson hospice, also in North Las Vegas, being kept as comfortable as possible. She is predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Merritt, and her parents, Moe and Evelyn Gottlieb. Arlene is survived by her son Andrew (Lisa) King, and his children Julia and Ethan; and her daughter Jody (Joe) Cooper, and her children Zachary, Noah, Kyla, Shimi, and Gali – all of whom reside in upstate New York. She is also survived by two brothers: Gregory Gottlieb, of North Las Vegas, and Daniel Gottlieb, of Washington state. Arlene was born on April 22, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY, but spent the first half of her adult life upstate – in Cortland, North Syracuse, and Liverpool – before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1985, and eventually settling in the Las Vegas area. A fan of baking, bridge, bingo, and Barry Manilow, she especially enjoyed traveling from the West Coast to the East Coast to visit her children and grandchildren.
