I was a student in Mr. Smith's US History and World History classes at Western High School. He was without a doubt one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I am incredibly saddened to hear about his passing. His passion for teaching was clearly evident to all of his students, and participating in his classes had a significant impact on my desire to pursue higher education, and without a doubt inspired my interest in history and politics. I was never a great student, but Mr. Smith never gave up on me and pushed me to succeed in his classes. More than anything else, Mr. Smith showed me that learning could be fun, and he was a major factor in my decision to attend college despite my original intentions not to.
Thank you Mr. Smith for being such an exceptional teacher and for making such a positive impact on my life, my heart goes out to his family and friends, you will be truly missed.

I was a student of Jeff's for both U.S. History and World History at Western HS from 2003-2005. He had a phenomenal influence on the way I study, learn, interact with people, and coincidentally, teach my students. He was a beacon of candor and honesty and I always admired him. I hope you are able to find peace.

Thinking of you and your family every day, Santa, and hope that the love of friends and family, no matter how far away some of us are, brings you strength and comfort. This was a beautiful obituary; I never got to meet him, but you were so blessed to have 23 years of united souls.
