Obituary of Dorothy Laurel Kemp

Dorothy Laurel Kemp, age 76, a 56 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Dorothy was born April 4, 1940 in Washington DC to the late Samuel Kramer and the late Adele Kadans. As a young child, her family moved to the Los Angeles area. Dorothy attended Hollywood Professional School and the Los Angeles Music Conservatory. She met her husband Donald Kemp, a young pianist while performing with a band on Valentine's Day, 1959, They moved to Las Vegas and were married there August 7, 1960. Dorothy continued to perform and began teaching voice lessons, working with many of the dancers on the Strip who wanted to broaden their talents. Dorothy and Donald opened a number of businesses, including Southern Nevada Music and Music World. She was also involved in many organizations including Temple Beth Sholom, Las Vegas Performing Arts and the Las Vegas Central Rotary Club, where she was an Honorary Member. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Kemp and a myriad of friends. A funeral service will be held at 9:20 am on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV. Contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Rotary International Polio Plus Fund. .
