Obituary of John Arlet Cook

John Arlet Cook passed away on June 20, 2016 at the age of 81. John was the only child of the late Arlet L & Edwine Cook, born March 4, 1935. John attended Farmingdale High School in New York, while there; he was on the football team through his senior year. After graduating High School in 1954, John enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in Japan. He served his country from 1954 to 1957. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War. In 1960, John joined the Nassau County, New York, Police Department. He was an active participant on the Police wrestling team. He was also a champion on the international weightlifting team, earning a second place overall title. There he served until an accident, sustained in service, required him to retire. In 1960 to 2012 John was an active member of the American Legion; he belonged to the Police Department Unit #1050 in Nassau County, New York. Through the years, he moved up in office, as he continued to volunteer for various positions. He held the offices of: 3rd Vice Commander, Adjutant, Treasurer, Sergeant at Arms, Membership, Color Guard, and 10th District Commander. He worked with the Boy Scouts with disabilities and helped other organizations get involved. John was a counselor for 5 years and director for 2years in Boys State of New York. He was a member of the 40/8. He moved to Las Vegas in 2013. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Marines Toys for Tots.
