Obituary of Rommel Guzman Martin

Rommel “Hula” Martin passed away peacefully in the Complex Care Hospital at Tenaya on August 23, 2015 in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 45. Hula is survived by his mother, Rosario Martin of Las Vegas; sister, Barbra Munoz and her family, Ferdinand Munoz, Bailey Munoz and Faithe Munoz in Las Vegas; brother, Ronald Martin and his family, Vickie Lim, Cian Lim and Theone Martin in Alameda, CA. He is preceded in death by his father, Bayani Martin. Hula was born on January 17, 1970 in Manila, Philippines to Bayani and Rosario Martin. He grew up in a small town called Balagtas in the province of Bulacan. In 1985, he and his family migrated to the United States, settling in Union City, California. He went to James Logan High School where he forged lifelong friendships. He also lived in Guam briefly in the nineties while working as a Polynesian dancer (among other things). At the turn of the millennium, Hula moved to Las Vegas with his family where he finally settled, surrounding himself with good friends and strengthening his family bond even deeper. Hula’s last occupation was working in the family valet business as an account executive and all-around help. Hula was a walking encyclopedia, and was known for being an expert on all subject matters (some more factual than others). He was ALWAYS the life of the party, and was the spark of any celebration or event. His energy and joy was infectious. He was also the family confidant (when his cousins got into trouble, Hula was the first person they’d go to). He was a huge supporter and cheerleader of all his nephews and nieces performances and sporting events. His love and passion for cooking BBQ and eating is equally the same. He has earned the title of the King of BBQ. However, if you happen to see a picture of a Panda you will probably be reminded of him. Hula was a beautiful soul with an even bigger heart. He is irreplaceable and will be dearly missed. A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 to 5:00 PM at 3975 S. Durango Dr. Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV 89147 (Kraft & Sussman). You are also invited to attend a Catholic prayer service from 2 to 3 PM (same date and location). In lieu of flowers, donations to help cover the cost of the service is appreciated. The family would like send a special thank you to Dr. Mars Belizario for his professional and personal guidance, Andrew Cruz for his constant vigil during his stay at ICU, and the medical staff of Centennial Hospital and Complex Care Hospital at Tenaya for providing medical care. The family would also like to thank everyone (families and friends) during this period of difficulty for their constant prayers, endless compassion and unmeasurable love.
