Obituary of Alfred Acosta Guzman

Alfred Acosta Guzman, 78, of Las Vegas, Passed away May 29, 2010. He was born Feb. 18, 1932, in EI Paso, Texas, and was a 48-year resident of Nevada. Alfred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1967, he began his illustrious career in the hotel casino industry at the Desert Inn Hotel. He was the advertising and public relations director who is credited with being a major contributor in making Las Vegas what it is today. From 1972-1981, he went on to the Sands Hotel assuming the position of director of advertising and public relations, again creating many media events that made national headlines. He opened his own advertising business in 1982. In 1985, Alfred was the advertising and public relations director at the Dunes Hotel. In 1989, he was a sales executive for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau in Laughlin. Alfred was promoted throughout his career until he retired in 2000. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Guzman; mother, Maria Guzman; brothers, Raymond and Albert; and sisters Marina and Angeline. Alfred is survived by his wife, Eleanor Guzman; children, Warren, Kathleen, Barbara (Mark) Solomon and Rob Guzman; grandchildren, James Solomon, Jordanna (Ross) Evans, Daniel Solomon and Alex Solomon; and sisters, Terry Thomas and Ruby Wozniak. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m, Friday, June 4, at The Orleans Hotel and Casino, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. We will miss his generosity, humor, brilliance and the love he had for his family. Donations in his memory may be made to the NV ASPCA and to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
