Obituary of Helen Stadler

Helen Stadler, aka Helene Greenstein Stadler, age 100, a 71 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013. Helen was born December 5, 1912 in New York NY to the late Meyer and the late Sadie (Frost) Smith. Helen came to Las Vegas in 1942, during the war, by train to meet her fianc and future husband, Martin Greenstein. Martin and his prtners took over a liquor distributing company, later known as Las Vegas Distributing. They provided liquor to the local hotels, bars and restaurants in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. As a stay at home mother, Helen was very active in the Jewish community, serving as president of Temple Beth Sholom's sisterhood and B'nai Brith Women. She later worked for the Las Vegas Convention Center as the secretary in charge of housing conventioneers. Working there for over 20 years, she helped them convert from note cards to computers. Helen was invited by Jack Tell to write a gossip column for the Las Vegas Israelite in the 1960's. Helen traveled throughout the world. She enjoyed baking, going out with friends, and playing pan and mah jong. Her family was the most important aspect of her life. Helen is survived by children Joseph (Nance) Greenstein of Portland OR, and Francine Greenstein of Las Vegas; and grandchildren Jessica Jalof of Las Vegas, Marty Greenstein of Elk Grove CA, and Sam (Jennifer) Greenstein of Portland OR; great grandchildren Max and Jack Greenstein of Portland. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Boulevard North, Las Vegas. Contributions in Helen's memory may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, Jewish National Fund, Temple Beth Sholom or Chabad of Green Valley.
