Obituary of Seymour Whitman

Seymour Whitman, age 89, a 22 year resident of Las Vegas, NV passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013. Seymour was born October 3, 1923 in Brooklyn NY, the middle of three sons, to the late Philip and the late Lena (Zencheck) Whitman. He grew up during the depression and enlisted in the US Navy, serving honorably during World War II. Seymour grew up in Brighton Beach and loved to go to Nathans Famous. Seymour drove a truck for the Pepsi Cola Company prior to opening Whitman's Trade Rite, a grocery store in Brooklyn. He never lost his love for pizza, hot dogs, Chinese food, a pastrami sandwich, riding roller coasters, the New York Yankees, football and old western movies. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth (Saltzman) Whitman, children Phyllis (Alan) Fields of Las Vegas, Steven (Lois) Whitman of Old Bridge, NJ and Shelley (Joseph) Jacob of Woodland Hills, CA; grandchildren Scott Whitman, David Whitman, Lauren Jacob and Tashina (Kenneth) Hartley; and great grandchildren Colin and James. He is predeceased by his son, Richard Roberts, parents and brothers. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday April 7, 2013 at King David Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Ln., Las Vegas 89121 . .
