Obituary of Glenna Marie Loar-Nielsen

Glenna Marie Loar Nielsen (Maggie-Mae) 64 Our loving wife, daughter, sister, friend and mother passed from this world on Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Glenna was born March 10, 1949 in Carlsbad, New Mexico at St. Francis Hospital to loving parents Maurice Rogers (Loar) and James Elbert Loar Jr. She was raised alongside her big sister Mary Lee Fossum. Glenna was very talented as a child and loved to be involved in many activities. Some of her favorites were ballet, gymnastics, tap, waterskiing, snow skiing, hiking, cooking, playing the piano and clarinet. She enjoyed being outside and taking in her surroundings. She was an active member of the Rainbow girls in New Mexico and was a princess for the Babe Ruth pageant in Farmington. Glenna graduated from Farmington High School in 1967. Received a bachelors in education from University of NM. She also received a Master's degree in Special Education and Neuropsychology. She also got a degree as a Diagnostition, were she made the highest grade in the state of New Mexico. Those grades encouraged the state of New Mexico to revamp their education and testing for children with special needs. Glenna's passion was education and that is where she spent her days. She worked in special education in the Albuquerque public schools, as well as Valley High School. She was an administrator for the Bloomfield Schools. After moving to Las Vegas, Nevada she became an assistant principal in the Clark County School District. Glenna married the love of her life Wilfred James Nielsen (Sweet Baby James) on April 28, 1992 in Farmington, New Mexico. They built their home and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. There was no doubt the love that they had for each other. Brought to the marriage were three daughters who loved Glenna deeply. She was a loving mother to her girls and grandchildren. Glenna was survived by husband, Wilfred James (Jim) Nielsen of Las Vegas, Nevada; mother Maurice Loar of Paris, Texas; sister Mary (Lee) Fossum of Fort Towson, Oklahoma; daughter Amy Blake of Clearfield, Utah; daughter Julie (Billy) Wood of Farmington, New Mexico and daughter Rachel (Josh) Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren Layne, Liam, Mark, Kayla, Nicholas, Cody, Hollie, Taylor and Jayden. Along with many close family and friends (Banger Sisters of Albuquerque). She was predeceased by father James Loar Jr. of Paris, Texas. There will be no services held in Nevada. A special thank you from Glenna to all of the family, friends, co-workers, health care providers and students that touched her life. She loved many people and her heart will always be with us. The woman she was will leave a legacy to many and she will be deeply missed. Stay forever young.
