Obituary of Betty Jean Ugland

Betty Jean Ugland, 73, of Sioux Falls, SD. passed away on December 6, 2022 at Henderson Hospital, Henderson, NV. There will be two Services, both preceded by Visitation. On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Visitation will be 1:00-3:30 p.m. with Service at 3:30 p.m. at Kraft Sussman Funeral & Cremation Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV 89147. On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m., with Service at 10:00 a.m. at George Boom Funeral Home, 3408 East 10th Street, Sioux Falls, SD. 57103. Betty was born on July 12, 1949 in Sioux Falls, SD to Orlean and Ruby (Nelson) Ugland. She attended school in Sioux Falls through 9th grade before her employment at McKennan Hospital where she worked for 35 years. She lived with her father until his death in 1986, at which time her Aunt, Mavis (Chris) Duffy, assumed Betty’s guardianship. When Mavis died in 2002, she moved to Auburn, WA to live with Patty Gillespie Walter and family. While in Auburn, she worked in various Nursing Homes and Panera Bread, where she received national recognition for her service to customers. She spent the last year of her life In Henderson, NV with her final guardians Larry and Kim Gillespie. Her final job was Senior Lobby Attendant at Dairy Queen. Betty liked to stay active and engaged. Her hobbies included painting bird houses, word search, puzzles, crocheting and watching sporting events. She was loved and admired by everyone she came into contact with, and treated everyone with kindness and respect. She especially liked being around children and would play their games with them for hours on end. Birthdays and Christmas were special for her and each gift was greeted with squealing laughter and genuine appreciation. Betty loved going to church no matter which denomination. In Sioux Falls, she attended East Side Lutheran Church, in Auburn, Saint Philomena Catholic Church, and in Las Vegas, Desert Hills Baptist Church. No mater where she attended, she was always eager to volunteer and help out in any way she could. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Half Sister - Donna Reiter, Cousin and Guardian - Patricia Gillespie Walter, and Aunt and Guardian - Mavis Duffy.
