Obituary of Patrick H Shaughnessy

Patrick Harold Shaughnessy,70, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Nathan Adelson Hospice. He was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on May 30, 1952, to Harold and Elva Duff Shaughnessy. He later moved with his family to Oberlin, Kansas, where he graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1970. Patrick attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1974. During his school years, he enjoyed and excelled in singing. After graduation he worked as a campus minister for the Baptist Student Union. Later, Patrick relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, where he met his life partner and husband, William Heaivilin. After living in Des Moines for several years they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. While in Des Moines, Patrick went to work for Wells Fargo where he remained for 30 years as a leadership and development trainer. Throughout his career, he enjoyed mentoring, guiding, and helping people reach their full potential. He and Bill loved to travel as well as staying at home in Las Vegas to be with their dogs and host happy hours on Friday afternoons for their friends. They also enjoyed frequent trips to their Palm Springs condo and the friends they made in Palm Springs. Favorite journeys throughout the years included going to Hawaii several times, Ireland and wine tasting in Paso Robles. Patrick had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued. He will be remembered for his huge laugh, big smile, humor and storytelling. His is survived by his spouse William Heaivilin of Las Vegas; brother Michael (Edith) Shaughness of McPherson, Kansas; sisters Cathy (Steve) Fosselman of Grand Island, Nebraska and Teresa Shaughnessy of Oberlin, Kansas; and nephew Andrew Shaughnessy. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Pfeifer; and niece Sandi Berens. Patrick loved dogs and had many throughout his life. Memorial donations can be made to the Nevada SPCA where Patrick and Bill got their beloved rescue dog, Maggie, or to an animal charity of your choice.
