Obituary of Harry Gerenstein

Harry Gerenstein, age 95, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Harry was born August 8, 1917 in New York, NY. He is the son of the late Jacob and the late Bertha Gerenstein. He was married to his wife of 53 years, Paula Korentur, until her passing in January 2001. Harry served in the Army during World War II from 12/09/1942 to 12/03/1945 and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and American Service Medal. He was employed as a Plumber/Foreman in the construction industry. An independent and spirited man, Harry led a very full life. He loved to play and watch tennis and worked out at the gym regularly until he reached age 92. He was a proud member and served as commander of the Jewish War Veterans, Greenspun-Radin Post 21, responsible for organizing their Poppy Drive. Harry spent a great deal of time volunteering at the local veterans' hospital, visiting with and raising the spirits of veteran patients. He was a gifted stained glass artist who made beautiful gift pieces for family and friends. He is survived by his son, Robert (Marcia) Gerenstein of Verona, NJ; daughter, Carol Gerenstein of Las Vegas, NV; and grandsons Scott Gerenstein and Adam Gerenstein, both of Verona, NJ. The funeral will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV. Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City on Monday, October 22 at 1:20 pm.
