Obituary of Virginia Susman
Virginia Susman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was 86 years old at the time of her death.
She was born May 24, 1935 in Albany, NY to Irving and Alice Hazelden. Virginia grew up in the central New York area with her 3 siblings, William, Susanne, and Judith. In addition to her studies, Virginia enjoyed the company of her horses, numerous Cocker Spaniels, Doberman Pinschers, and cats. She enjoyed leading an active lifestyle from a young age. Virginia graduated from Cortland University with a Bachelor's degree and planned to become a physical education teacher.
Virginia married Daniel Susman in 1957. After stops in New Orleans, Seattle, and Los Angeles, they settled down to raise 4 children in Newbury Park, California. Around this time, Virginia obtained her first show dog, "Peanut", a Cocker Spaniel. She spent many happy hours training and showing Peanut, leading her to join dog clubs and meet fellow dog enthusiasts. Virginia obtained many dog obedience titles and confirmation championships. She was very proud of her first home-bred champion, "Bump".
After 20 years of working for the US Postal Service, Virginia retired, packed up her 5 Cocker Spaniels, and moved to Las Vegas where she enjoyed the warmer weather. This is where she discovered a new passion: Dog Agility. Virginia stayed busy in her retirement training and showing her dogs and obtaining Agility titles. She stayed active and fit by training the dogs and walking several miles daily. Virginia enjoyed visiting with her sister and her children whenever they came into town. She loved going out to dinner and never failed to order a large Diet Coke.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, brother William, sister Judith, and son William. She is survived by her sister Susanne, daughters Karen, Jill and Ann, grandsons Drew and Logan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia is also survived by her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Chance.
