Obituary of Joyce Nelson

Joyce Nelson was deeply loved for her selflessness, love of friends and family and enormous heart. She passed away on January 31, 2022 at the age of 79.

Born June 28, 1942 in Detroit, MI, she married Elliott Nelson, husband of 56 years, and proudly raised her family before retiring to Las Vegas in 1998.  She was an incredible mother to Marc Nelson, Lori Kraft (Paul) and Wendy Riback (Steve) and her grandchildren Jake, Ashley, Gabi, Zak and Rosie.

Joyce was CEO of the Nelson Family, where she sat front row center as captain of their cheer team for absolutely everything. Later, she was promoted to Bubbie (grandmother) where she mentored, loved and spoiled 5 of her proudest achievements, that of her grandchildren, a role she was born to play.

Joyce’s kitchen served as headquarters for friends and family to convene. She always had everyone’s favorite desserts, snacks and free flowing coffee.  She lit up a room with her personality, kindness and positive disposition. She was a trusted ear and advisor to all.

Joyce was incredibly proud of raising her three children and returned to the workforce afterwards. Among her many fulfilling jobs, she most enjoyed her career at Nordstrom, where once again, she held court and was adored by all.

Joyce was preceded in death by her sister Micki Grossman and brother Sandy Sherman, She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and brother Ken.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m. at Kraft Sussman Funeral Services followed by her burial at Bunker's Memory Gardens Cemetery at 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road. Friends and family are welcome to pay a shiva (condolence) call on February 2. Contact the family directly for more information.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the National Kidney Foundation or Nathan Adelson Hospice.
