Obituary of Sanford Sherman

Sanford (Sandy) Paul Sherman (77), Las Vegas, NV passed away on October 6th, 2021. Born November 4, 1943 in Detroit, MI to Reubin and Fannie Sherman, he was a beloved father and youngest brother of four. After high school, Sandy spent two years in the Army and had the opportunity to follow his dream of opening a Jewish-style deli in Birmingham, Michigan that was loved by many. He made a bold move at 50 to return to college earning his masters degree in social work in order to follow his passion of helping adults with disabilities to acquire job training, which he did for several years in Las Vegas. Anyone who knew Sandy was guaranteed to laugh, love, and enjoy a good story. No matter how busy he was, he always had time to strike up a conversation with strangers and friends alike. And despite how poorly they typically played, he never gave up on his Detroit sports teams, even the Lions. Sandy is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mildred (Micki) Grossman. He is survived by his son Brian, Siblings Ken Sherman and Joyce (Elliott) Nelson, and many nieces and nephews, especially his favorites, Lori and Wendy. For those wanting to honor Sandy’s life, donations can be made to causes closest to his heart including Easterseals (easterseals.com), JDRF (jdrf.org) or Nathan Adelson hospice (nah.org). “I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes, until I met a man who has no feet” -Jewish Proverb
