Obituary of Vicente Valerio Hernandez, III

Vicente Valerio Hernandez III died Monday January 11, 2021 from Dementia Alzheimer's in his home. He was 82 years of age. He was born in San Antonio Texas to Vicente and Juanita Hernandez Jr. who proceed him in death. One brother Fred and two sister's Carolina and Maria Elena also proceed him. He was the oldest of 6 children. Vince is survived by his loving wife Alean. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage. In this union they had 5 children Anna Maria, Frank, Vicente IV, Gary and Juan Carlos. Vince is also survived by a sister Dolores Vega and brother Henry Hernandez to included many nephews and nieces along with their families. His special joy in his life was his 8 grand children and 6 great-grandchildren. Whom he loved and was so very proud of! Vince served 2 years in the Navy reserves before entering the United States Navy. Where he spent time traveling the world and the United States. Vince served on the U.S.S. George K. Mackenzie DD836 as a Independent Medical Duty Officer during the Vietnam era. "Doc" as he was called while on active duty and in retirement made him proud to wear the rank of (SCPO).His last duty station was at Balboa Naval Hospital San Diego, California in administration, where he retired with 24 years of patriotic service. His second retirement was from the United States government as a federal law enforcement officer. He was proud to serve his country once again. Vince received many medals, awards, certificates, and proclamations in his lifetime. He attended college at night along with his Navy medical schooling during the day for 2 years to receive his independent medical certificate. He would say he couldn't have done it without his wife's support. This was one of the most demanding schools he had pursued while in the Navy. Vince was always furthering his education while in the Navy and as a federal law enforcement officer. Retirement didn't stop him from working on his Master's degree. Vince was a Masonic Mason, 32° Scottish Rite Mason as well as a Shriner. Hobbies of his included his love of art, golf, barbecuing for his family along with being an avid reader. Education and community service was important to Vince. He freely gave his time to charity's and organizations. Family meant everything to him as well as his Catholic religion. Vince would say trust in God and never loose faith. He often said to family don't let anyone tell you, "You can't be or do whatever you choose in life! Pursue the dream, occupation, schooling or anything you desire. It may take you some time or possibly you'll face some challenges on your journey, just keep your eye on the prize and all is possible. These letters were special to him; LHR, which represented Love, Honor & Respect. He always finished off on a note, letter or an art piece with those 3 letters to his family members. This was a small reminder to them to live by them. Vince taught his children faith and family first. Always to stand behind and honor their word. With many other good moral values. Vince treasured his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the wife's of his sons, who he referred to lovingly as his daughter's and his extended family members as well as his friends. His love, companionship, guidance, support along with his wisdom he shared from his own life experiences will truly be missed. Vince's family will miss seeing his smile and hearing his voice. As well as him saying that he was cold even when it was 90 degrees or above. God Saw You Getting Tired God saw you getting tired, And a cure was not to be. So he put his arm around you And Whispered, "Come home with ME" With tearful eyes we watched you And saw you pass away. And though we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A loving golden heart stopped beating. Your hard working hands, And body were put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Vince will be interned in a Columbarium at 1900 Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. Vince's service with full military honors will follow later, due to the following. Vince has sons who live out of state with jobs that are considered highly essential. Quarantining for two weeks is impossible at this time. When it has been determined that COVID 19 is at a level where quarantining isn't required the family will reach out with further information.
