Obituary of Gerald "Gerry" Burton Yam

Gerald "Gerry" Burton Yam, age 83, of Las Vegas, died Saturday, September 22, 2012. Gerrry was born September 28, 1928 in Brooklyn NY to the late Hershel and the late Freda (Steinberg) Yam. Gerry grew up in Brooklyn and attended CCNY, where he was a member of ROTC. He enlisted in the Army and was a Captain during the Korean Conflict. After his service he attended NYU Law School. Gerry and his wife, Roberta, moved to Los Angeles in 1956, where he practiced law. Gerry helped start Temple Soliel in Los Angeles, was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. He loved playing bridge and was a Dodgers fan, both Brooklyn and Los Angeles. Gerry continued to practice law after moving to Las Vegas in 2003. He is a member of Temple Bet Emet. He is survived by his children Michelle Yam of Germantown MD and Keith (Joyce) Yam of Beaverton OR; grandchildren Dustin, Sarah and Jordan Yam of Beaverton and partner, Lori Uretz or Las Vegas. A funeral will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas. Burial and a graveside service will be in River View Cemetery, 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road in Portland at 11:30 AM on Sunday, Sept. 30. Contributions in Gerry's memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
