Obituary of Allan Winogura

Our beloved Allan Winogura, 96 years old, passed on Wednesday December 30th at home in Las Vegas with his family next to him. Lover of his family, his wife, dogs, and a good hamburger with fries and a coke, we will miss him tremendously. His infectious laugh and ability to tell a good story compelled us to him every time. Allan was born in Los Angeles in 1924 to Sam Winogura and Sarah Shuben and was brother to Jack, who passed way too young at the age of 17. After graduating from Fairfax High, he went straight to the Air Force, and was stationed in India and Burma. He returned after victory, to work with his parents in the family liquor stores. Once established, and starting a family, he went into the used car business. His natural skills in schmoozing, and making a good deal, led him to ownership of a Porsche/Audi dealership, which he nurtured until his retirement. His love for dogs lead to volunteering with Guide Dogs of America, and he found joy in walking puppies in training. Allan is survived by his wife, Olivia, and his children: Dale Winogura, Jill (Jack) Freed, and Kathryn Winogura. His love and pride of his grandchildren is beyond description: Iris and Leon Wagner. His cousins, Andrea (Mike) Schwartz and Fred Zax, have fond memories of their early days with Allan. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to: Guide Dogs of America, www.guidedogsofamerica.org. We will always remember him singing loudly to the recording of That's Life by Frank Sinatra, just last year. And, when times got tough or decisions needed to be made, he'd quote Edwin Markham: "For all your days be prepared, and meet them ever alike. When you are the anvil, bear – when you are the hammer, strike." We will miss him so very much.
