While I served on Enterprise at the same time as Wayne, and was a nuke MM as was he, we were in different divisions and power plants so I didn't get to know him until we began having Fire Reunions in 2004. Turned out after those nearly 34 years that he was a very good friend of a very good friend. He was smart, funny, and strong in character. Like so many really good people he was taken way too early and will be missed by many. May he rest in peace and in keeping with a Naval theme have fair winds and following seas. Farewell shipmate and friend.

Uncle Wayne held a special place in my heart. As a child I always looked forward to our family camping trips together in Gatlinburg and Mohican. I enjoyed playing cribbage with him and his lighthearted teasing (my nickname was Pyro).
I especially enjoyed the story telling. Wayne had a storytelling ability unlike anybody I have ever met. His storytelling was not only amusing but also made me feel connected to family members I had rarely or never met.
Wayne and Maureen never made me feel brushed aside or as if I was being treated with kid gloves. They were two of the first adults in my life that made me feel like a had a valid seat at the table. Unquestionably Wayne and Maureen had a positive effect on my life. For this I will be ever thankful.
Reading this obituary brought back all of these fond memories of Wayne from my childhood. It also serves as an inspiration to live a full life and to strive to have a positive impact those around me. I wish I had more opportunities to visit with Wayne as an adult.
Uncle Wayne, you will be truly missed.
Our Sincerest Condolences,
Brian Bahr and Family
