Cara Cantrell

Obituary of Cara LeAnne Cantrell

Cara LeAnne Cantrell, age 61, of Las Vegas, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Cara was born in Las Vegas on April 13, 1959 at the hospital at Nellis AFB. She is the daughter of the late Ralph Phillip and Wilma Marie (Sharp) Mosa.

Cara went to Las Vegas Day School in Las Vegas and graduated from Bishop Gormon High School in Las Vegas in 1977. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Wyoming in 1981. She later earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Eastern New Mexico University in Portales in 2000. She received her CPA License for the State of New Mexico in 2001 and later her CPA License for the State of Nevada in 2005.

Cara worked as a CPA from 2001 until 2016 in various CPA firms. Later on, she received her Life and Health insurance license for the State of Nevada in 2018 and worked as a Life and Health agent at several insurance agencies from 2018 until present.

Cara spent her childhood riding horses with her pack of dogs following along on early morning rides. She used to ride from the Cheyenne/Rainbow Blvd area all the way to Lone Mountain when that used to be wide open spaces. Cara loved to go fishing. It was one of her passions in life passed onto her by her grandmother. She was also an avid gardener whose favorite thing to de-stress was to go dig in the dirt and grow herbs, vegetables, and beautiful flowers.

She had a passion for taking care of animals. Between the horses and dogs from when she was a child all the way to her cats she had when we first met. We have 2 dogs, 2 chickens, a goldfish pond and 4 aquariums in our house and would probably have more if we had the room and it was allowed.

Cara used to be heavily involved in the Shriners organization in New Mexico when she was younger. She later joined Rick in Parrot Heads in Paradise, a nationwide charity organization that raises millions of dollars for charity all over the world and participates in huge environmental cleanups all in the guise of a Jimmy Buffett fan club.

Cara loved travelling the world with her husband, Rick. They did four 7-day catamaran cruises in the Caribbean in St. Maarten and the British Virgin Islands. They joined their friends who got married on the Queen Mary in Long Beach on “the ghost ship”. They took an Alaska cruise through the inside passage. They spent a week in Maine eating all of the lobster they could get their hands on. Cara and Rick took two trips to Key West, FL for the annual Parrot Heads in Paradise convention. They took numerous fishing trips to Eagle Valley, NV to go fishing where her grandmother taught her how to fish. Cara and Rick spent many happy days with friends going on wine trips in California, Oregon, Washington, and Maine.

Cara is predeceased by her father, Ralph Mosa.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Vernon Cantrell; her mother Wilma Mosa; her brother, Cory Mosa; and her step-daughter, Kristine Olsen.
