Obituary of Elaine Madeline Scher
Elaine Madeline Scher, 75, of Las Vegas, NV passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2020.
She was born on October 11, 1945 in Los Angeles, California, to Milton and Fay Taub. She is survived by her husband, Harvey, their two children, Marla Cormier and her husband Andy, and Ira Scher and his fiancé Neha, her older brother Leonard Taub, his wife Harriett, their two daughters Amy and Elisha and their families, and her younger brother Rick, his wife Lee, and their daughter Jamie and her family.
Elaine loved being a mom. It was her dream job. After many years of heartbreak struggling to conceive, she treasured making memories with her children. When Marla was born, she enjoyed baking challah on Fridays together, taking adventure walks around the neighborhood, playing in the grass, looking up at the trees, and spending time at the local playground. Eight years later when Ira was born, she enjoyed playing with cars and dinosaurs, reading books together, and watching him play sports from soccer to baseball. As Ira grew older, they formed a deeper bond where they enjoyed going to lunches and dinners together. She was always a mom first, but over time, she became a best friend. She loved celebrating holidays as a family and kept the hand-made Chanukah decorations her kids made in school and hung them every year. Her matzah stuffing for Passover, along with her orange sponge cake, were just two of her holiday specialties. Whether it was Thanksgiving or just her homemade potato salad, she took great pride in cooking and her family always appreciated it also.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, November 24th, at Bunkers Memory Garden Cemetery, 7251 Lone Mountain Road, Las Vegas, 89129. Family and friends are welcome to a socially-distanced gathering, graveside. Entering and parking off the Tenaya entrance is recommended. The service may be seen on Zoom via this link.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
