Obituary of Evelyn Vanek

Evelyn Vanek, age 91, of Las Vegas, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side, Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice. Evelyn was born April 8, 1921 in Ashton, NB to the late Stephen and the late Valentina (Prenczek) Pilakowski. Evelyn retired in 1973, after 25 years, from Nabisco in Portland, OR. She is survived by her daughters Karen Thompson and Kathy (Jim) Spurling, all of Las Vegas; grandchildren Tracey (Greg) McGreevey of Atlanta, GA and Marci (Andrew) Bylund of Las Vegas; great grandchildren Zachary McGreevey and Nicholas McGreevey of Atlanta, GA and Makenna and Paige Bylund of Las Vegas; and sisters Estelle George of Portland, OR, Maryann (Buck) Summers of Portland and Edian Wold of Salem, OR; She was preceded in death by her husband George Vanek and her brothers Dick and Paul Pilakowski. A memorial mass will be held at 8:00 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1260 NE 132nd Ave., in Portland. Interment will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Willamette National Cemetery.
