Obituary of Sompong Sampim

Sompong Sampim, age 82, a ten year resident of Las Vegas, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Sompong was born March 23, 1930 in Thailand to the late Song and the late Monk Sampim. He enlisted in the Thai navy at the age of 15 as a frogman and then with the intelligence service. He fought alongside the American troops in Koreah and Vietnam. Sompsong was the 1960 Kickboxing Champion of Thailand. Sompong came to the US about 40 years ago and worked as a steelworker in Chicago. He enjoyed gardening and tropical fish and also played a Thai musical string instrument called the "Saw U" in a band. Sompong is survived by his wife of 46 years Nuanlaor Sampim, sons Sayam Sampin of Chicago and Saharat (Marianne) Sampin of Chicago; and grandchildren Cloddagh, Estelle and Valerie. A visitation and Buddhist servie will be held 8:00 am on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV, with cremation to immediately follow.
