Obituary of Edward Mayer Solomon

Edward (Ed) Mayer Solomon, age 81, of Las Vegas, NV passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012. Ed was born October 16, 1930 in New York, NY to the late Benjamin and the late Gertrude (Berkowitz) Solomon. After high school Ed enlisted in the Air Force, where he served from April 1951 to July 1954. While stationed in Texas, he met a lovely Southern girl, Jerry Guillory, at a dance. Six months later on April 26, 1957, they were married and moved to New York where Ed was employed as an insurance broker. Ed's life was marked by dedication to his family. Ed and Jerry had two children a daughter, Lori, and a son, Eric. Ed - a true "yes" dad -- doted on his children, taking an active interest in Eric's love of sports and mortgaging the family home in order to send Lori and Eric to camp. He adored his grandson, Eric (son of Eric and Rosie) - for whom he would do anything. Ed believed strongly in his marriage vows, standing by Jerry for "better or worse" and nursing her back to health during a serious illness. Ed and Jerry moved to Las Vegas in 1990 and would have been married 55 years in April 2012. Ed is remembered as a kind, honest and brilliant man who could talk to anyone on any level. He cared greatly about people and felt strongly about caring for and improving his community by serving on his homeowners' board in a variety of positions. He loved poker, and according to Jerry, could be found playing "8 days a week." He is survived by his wife Jerry (Guillory) Solomon; children Lori Solomon and Eric (Rosie) Solomon; and grandson, Eric Solomon. The funeral will be held 12:00 pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV with officiating. Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City on Wednesday, March 14 at 12:00 pm. .
