Dawn Payne

Obituary of Dawn Leslie Payne

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs…”

Proverbs 31:25

Dawn Leslie (Sandner) Payne passed from this life into the next on Monday, July 27, 2020. Aged 64, Dawn was born on January 18, 1956 in Hollywood, CA, the oldest daughter of James “Jim” C. Sandner Jr., and Patricia “Pat” Sandner.

Dawn is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Herman Payne, her son and daughter-in-law, Revs. Clayton and Sarah Payne, her grandson Cody, her brothers, James C. Sandner III and sister-in-law, Donna Sandner, and John Sandner, her sister, Jennifer “Jenney” LeMieux, brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” LeMieux, and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A resident of Pahrump, NV for decades, Dawn was an avid quilter throughout her life. Beginning in childhood, Dawn found peace at her sewing machine. Her quilts were donations for cancer patients and fundraisers, gifts for family and friends, but always an expression of kindness, caring, and love. She enjoyed the time at her sewing machine almost as much as those she quilted with in her beloved quilt club, Shadow Mountain Quilters.

To know Dawn was to know that she was good with numbers, creative, and that Herman was, “the love of her life.” Together they frequently enjoyed gathering with friends, often for tacos, with their Monday night dinner group. She was a resilient woman who did not let her medical conditions keep her from laughing and loving. No one could ever quite make her laugh like Clayton. He was her miracle, and she was endlessly proud of him. Dawn believed that God had used her to bring Clayton into the world that he might proclaim the good news of Jesus.

Dawn would tell anyone who would listen about how she came to faith and about the love of Jesus. She was a member of Pahrump Community Church, and Pastor D. Keith Walker will be presiding at an online service to celebrate God’s work in Dawn’s life on Thursday, August 13th @ 11 AM PST, 2 PM EST. The online service will be available through a variety of platforms please check back on this page to find an updated list.
