Obituary of Sanford "Sandy" Epstein

Sanford “Sandy” Epstein, 86, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.  He was laid to rest with military honors at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada on April 28, 2020.

Sandy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Fannie Epstein on July 14, 1933.  He attended South Philadelphia High School and enlisted in the US Army at age 16, serving in Korea from 1950 to 1951.  After being twice wounded, Sandy was granted an honorable discharge. He had a varied and interesting career, ultimately becoming the manager of the prestigious Bally of Switzerland on Walnut Street in Philadelphia.

Sandy married Sheila Faye Wolfe on March 18, 1956 and fulfilled his dream of being married and raising children in his own home in the suburbs.  Sandy and Sheila lived in Pennsylvania and California, before finally settling and enjoying his last 30 years in Las Vegas. Sandy was active in the Jewish War Veterans Post #64, helping veterans and their families in need.  Sandy never met a stranger, and greeted everyone with a story or a song.  Everyone who met Sandy was endeared to him by his warm smile, charm, and sense of humor.

Sandy is survived by Sheila, his wife of 64 years, daughter Aileen, son Carl, five loving grandchildren, sisters Louise, Bette and Myrna, and nieces and nephews galore.

The family wishes to thank Southwest Medical Hospice for their kind and loving care during Sandy’s last four months.  Funeral arrangements were compassionately and expertly handled by Laura Sussman of Kraft-Sussman Funeral and Cremation Services.

Donations in Sandy’s memory can be made to JWV Post #64 through www.klineveteransfund.org.
