Obituary of Edward Isador Turken

Edward Isadore Turken was born on July 28, 1923 in Detroit Michigan, son of Rose and Jack Turken, brother to Laura Tennenhouse. Our beloved Ed passed away on April 5, 2020 in Summerlin Nevada at the age of 96. He is survived by his sons, Jack Turken and Todd Turken and his only grandchild, Emma Turken, age 16. Ed was much loved by many in his community. He was well known for his sense of humor and love of life. He was featured in several local media outlets with human interest stories. Ed married Eva Perlmutter in Detroit in June 1950. They moved to the San Fernando Valley and spent many years there raising their sons and enjoying life in Southern California. He and his wife Eva moved to Summerlin Las Vegas in 1997 and both grew to love the area and made many strong connections and friendships in their senior community, while remaining deeply involved with family. They enjoyed attending theater productions, visiting with their out of town guests and traveling. Ed was active in many local organizations. He served as Commander for the local Jewish war veterans' chapter as well as acting President of Jewish Friendship Club. He was also an active member of the Men's Club at his Temple. Ed also volunteered during elections for local and national voting events. He was well known for his work with veterans in the area and was part of surviving veterans of World War II. He served our country in the US Army Air Corp and enlisted in December, 1942. Ed was selected to represent Summerlin as part of veterans Honor Flight to Washington D.C. several years ago and was thrilled to be able to see the Nation's capital and to visit the many symbols of freedom that he had fought for. Ed was buried April 16, 2020 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, next to his beloved wife of 64 years, Eva. Donations can be made in his name to Jewish War Veterans in honor of Edward Turken. https://www.jwv.org/give/donate/donate-on-time/
