Obituary of Morton David Kogut

Morton David Kogut, 95, a 33 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Morton was born December 7, 1923 in Queens, NY to the late Alex and the late Anna Kogut. He earned a Master's Degree in teaching and taught mathematics at Taft High School in the Bronx, where he was also the school's Math Chancellor. Morton also taught mathematics and philosophy at Queens College in New York and philosophy at UNLV, after moving to Las Vegas. Morton was a strong athlete who enjoyed handball, table tennis and swimming. An avid reader and historian, he had books throughout the house. One area he was particularly interested in was world religions. He also enjoyed being the president of Glenn Oak Square for many years. Morton is survived by his wife of 54 years Doris Kogut; children Susanne Forestieri and Christine Oms; grandchildren Denise (Thomas) Whisenhunt, Peter (Lauren) Anastasopoulos, Gina Forestieri; great grandchildren Elizabeth (James) Schotter, Ned (Viviana) Anastasopoulos, Amanda (Brandon) Markham, Sara Leathers, Shannon Blyden, Anthony Marez; nephews Alex Kogut and Richard Kogut; and many great great grandchildren. He is predeceased by brothers Stanley and Alvin Kogut; grandson Eric Oms; and great granddaughter Emily Whisenhunt. Services will be private.
