Obituary of Genevieve Read Sapp Gilbert

Genevieve Read Sapp Gilbert, 91, died November 15, 2018 in her home in Henderson, Nevada. At her request there will be no service. She was born September 29, 1927 in Tampa, Florida. She was the first child of Genevieve Read Sapp and Virgil Sapp. After graduating from high school in Raleigh, North Carolina , Ms. Gilbert joined the US Cadet Nurse Corp and moved to Tallahassee, Florida to attend nurses training where she became an RN. Then she attended the University of Colorado where she earned a B.S. in public health nursing. In 1953 she married Frederick Gilbert. She was at his side when he died January 7, 2012. She started her career doing public health nursing in rural Colorado. Then taught nursing in Reading, Pennsylvania before returning to Colorado to work as an emergency room nurse for the remainder of her career. After retiring she seldom told anyone she had been a nurse. It was easier than telling them she didn't want to see their rash or give them a shot. Ms. Gilbert is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Gilbert, Jennifer Gilbert and Jessica Gilbert; her four grandchildren, Read and Jae Masino, and Cassandra and Cedric Sojka; her daughter-in-law, Chris Masino; and her loyal companion cat, Lucy.
